Alexander MacMillen of Montreal, Canada, went to Switzerland in 1879 and placed his special order for this music box with B.A. Bremond of Geneva. It has 12 interchangeable cylinders, each playing 6 tunes chosen by Mr. MacMillen. In addition to the music box movement, it contains an organ, flute, drum, bells, and castanets. The bells are struck by flying birds. The case is rosewood. . This music box is one of the only non-American pieces of furniture in the Museum.
